ZF has no plans to build plant

Although car transmission and component maker ZF Group sees a promising automotive market in Indonesia, the German-based company does not have plans to set up a factory in the country, according a top executive.
Cakra Wira Wiyata, ZF Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. general manager representing Indonesia, said the country offers huge business opportunities particularly due to its high population and the increasing demand for vehicles.
“We see the increasing size of the middle and high classes in this country. It will boost sales of cars and other vehicles from year to year. We definitely see it as a potential business opportunity,” Cakra said during a media gathering on Tuesday.
Despite the bright market outlook in Indonesia, ZF does not see any urgency for building a factory in the country because the company is still capable of fulfilling the growing demand from across the archipelago for spare parts.
“In Indonesia, we have more than 50 business partners that provide repairs and other services,” Cakra said.
According to Cakra, the need for spare parts is met by its factories in China. He said there are 25 factories in China, as well as one warehouse in Singapore, which are capable of supplying spare parts to the Asia-Pacific region, including Indonesia.
